Can't decide on a hobby

I've recently been feeling that a big hole in my life is a way to express myself, and I can't seem to choose how I want to do it. Over the course of my life in different seasons, I've been a writer, a digital painter, a musician, and a photographer.

I have the most experience as a musician, having played in worship bands in addition to on my own. However, it shifted from me playing my main instrument, electric guitar, to focusing on bass. Learning rhythm through bass has vastly improved my ability as a musician, but electric guitar is where I still feel the most joy in playing.

Writing is also something I've done quite a bit. In 2011, I participated in NaNoWriMo and wrote a (trash) 50,000 word novel. I also have been writing for this blog.

I took a digital photography class in high school. I don't remember much from it, especially how to process photos. However, photography is probably the thing hobby I've been most active in due to smartphones. I regularly go out to take photos when I'm on walks alone.

I have the least amount of experience in digital painting. Drawing is something I did occasionally as a kid with minor experience in translating it to digital. I used to draw dragons, Pokemon, etc. Now, I have more of an interest in landscapes a la Bob Ross.

I have an interest in continuing all of these hobbies and would love to start to grow into competency with them. Some friction exists for some though. For digital painting, I basically am starting from scratch, and in addition to learning how to draw, I have to learn the tool I'd use like Krita. Photography is in a similar place. I at least take photos I like, but I don't know how to use manual settings on my camera nor how to process them. All of my gear for music currently has electrical issues, whether it's my guitar's pickups or my amp's power jack. Writing has the least amount of friction because it's just coming up with what to write to be able to do it. I don't have to learn or fix tools like the other forms of art.

I have online resources for most of these that I've sporadically been using. I also used some time this summer to start learning web development through an online course, so that's mixed up in all of this. However, I don't seem to have focus on any one hobby. I want to get to a place of proficiency. I just have a hard time choosing what to devote my time to, and all seem appealing.

What do you think? Should I pick just one of these to focus on and when I'm proficient, maybe pick up another? If so, which one? Or do you think I should just jump around which would lead to less progress in any one skill but would allow me to develop in every way I want to?

If you have thoughts, drop me an email.
